Japan has strong ambitions to grow within renewables and reduce its carbon emissions. In October 2020, the Japan Government announced its target for net zero emission by 2050.In December 2020, it also announced a goal to roll out 10 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 30-45 GW by 2040.
As the leading floating offshore wind developer and with a long-standing interest in the Japanese market, Equinor is ready to explore renewable and low-carbon business opportunities and build a strong position within the Japanese offshore wind industry.
Equinor has an office in Tokyo and have been in Japan since 2018. We have collaborated with Japanese companies for decades, having been a substantial and reliable supplier of traditional oil and gas products to Japan over many years. We also have a long-standing business relation with trading houses, banks and steel mills in Japan. Our presence in Tokyo is important for developing relations with stakeholders, access business opportunities and build a position within the Japanese offshore wind industry. In addition to offshore wind Equinor is also supporting other business activities in Japan, like low-carbon value chains (hydrogen/ammonia).
