The Faroe Islands, an archipelago of 18 islands in the North Atlantic with a population of just 55,000, captivate travelers with dramatic cliffs, green landscapes, and ever-changing weather. Once named the “World’s Most Appealing Island” by National Geographic Traveler, the Faroes balance tradition with innovation, preserving culture while shaping a forward-looking society.

This program features the Tonik concept at the crossroads of art, technology, and business; the unveiling of the Osaka–Kansai Expo commemorative stamp; and sessions on wool design, contemporary art, and music. Key industries such as fisheries, aviation, distilling, and seaweed will be showcased alongside pioneering efforts in e-governance, digital infrastructure, smart grids, and the bold goal of achieving 100% renewable energy on land by 2030. From tidal power “Moon Energy” to cultural heritage, the Faroes embody “Tradition and Innovation,” “Nature and Future,” and “Small Islands, Big World.”

With ministerial representation, this event fosters new ties between Japan and the Faroes, sharing insights for a sustainable future.

フェロー諸島は北大西洋に浮かぶ18の島々から成り、その人口はわずか5万5千人ほど。しかし、雄大な断崖絶壁、緑の大地、変化に富む気候が生み出す幻想的な景観は「地球上で最も魅力的な場所のひとつ」として世界の旅行者を惹きつけてきました。

過去には米誌「National Geographic Traveler」の調査で「世界で最も魅力的な島」に選出され、自然と文化を守りながら未来志向の社会を築く姿勢は、長年世界中の憧れの的となっています。

プログラムでは、アートと技術、ビジネスの交差点を提示する Tonik コンセプトの紹介をはじめ、大阪・関西万博記念切手の発表、羊毛デザインや現代美術、音楽など独自文化を体感できるセッションを用意。また、漁業・航空・蒸留酒・海藻産業といった基幹産業に加え、eガバナンス、デジタルインフラ、スマートグリッドによる「2030年までに陸上100%再エネ達成」への挑戦、さらには潮流発電「Moon Energy」に至るまで、小さな島国から世界に発信される最先端の挑戦が披露されます。
