On December 15, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) announced the appointment of 15 Japanese cuisine professionals based overseas as new Goodwill Ambassadors for the Promotion of Japanese Food, as part of its efforts to promote the appeal of Japanese food, food culture, and Japanese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products abroad and to expand exports.

The Goodwill Ambassador for the Promotion of Japanese Food program was established in February 2015 with the aim of further promoting Japanese food and its culture worldwide. With the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other organizations, 15 new ambassadors have now been appointed and will play a key role in communicating the uniqueness and the charm of Japanese cuisine overseas.

One of the 15 newly appointed ambassadors is Frida Ronge, who served as Culinary Chef for the restaurant The Nordic Foodbar at the Nordic Pavilion, where she was responsible for menu development and supervision.

For the Nordic Pavilion, this appointment is truly wonderful news. Throughout the menu development process and during her media interviews, we have consistently felt Frida’s deep passion for Japanese food culture. It was also particularly memorable that she visited Japan not only for the opening of the Expo, but also for Sweden’s National Day and the jointly organized Food Day by the five Nordic countries, where she personally introduced the cuisine and cultural background to guests and visitors.

We are delighted and proud to see Frida continue her work as a bridge between the food culture nurtured by the rich natural environment of the Nordic region and the diverse and profound food culture of Japan.
