Japan has for many decades been among the most important markets for Norwegian seafood. Mackerel and salmon from Norway has become among Japans most popular species. Salmon from Norway, was first introduced to Japan in 1984 and is now famous for its superfresh, nama, never frozen quality brought to Japan and more than 100 countries worldwide only days after harvesting in Norway. Because of its extreme freshness it is therefore famous for being enjoyed raw as sushi and sashimi.

The Norwegian mackerel only caught in prime season, when it is as fattiest and juiciest which gives it a unique oishii taste. The mackerel is frozen in Norway and supplied to Japan where it is sold in restaurants and supermarkets all over Japan. More than 50% of all mackerel eaten in Japan originates from Norway.

Norway is dependent of its marine resources and do its outmost to harvest and manage our resources in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, to preserve our precious nature and ensure that people all around the world can continue to enjoy tasty, healthy and safe Norwegian seafood with the best consciousness.
